The Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit launched a comprehensive five-in-one vaccine on 12 March 2013 in order to provide protection to children against certain diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria and pertusis.
The CM announced that instead of three injections, now there will be a requirement of only one injection for providing protection against the diseases. The injection for vaccine will be available for the general public in 650 primary healthcare units as well as 32 Delhi Government Hospitals.
The life-saving injection would provide immunity to children against five threatening diseases. It would also decrease the infant mortality rate. It is important to note that in 1998-99; merely 58 percent infants received complete immunization. But in 2011-12, this number increased to 89 percent.
