Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine, US found out that just a little bit of cocktail can excite brain and also enhance the urge of drinking, even if the alcohol’s effect is not shown.
In the study, it was found that 49 men experienced such effect. Actually, the taste of a cocktail can trigger the reward chemical of the brain- called dopamine.
In the study, it was also found out that people who had family history of alcoholism, showed greater effect. In the study, men were kept under the brain scanner. Smaller amounts of different drinks were sprayed in their mouths. The effects of sports drinks, water and favourite beer of the participant were studied.
Every participant was given 15 ml of the fluid for over 15 minutes. The results depicted that there was a release of more dopamine in brain after beer. Eventually, men would demand for more alcoholic drink.
Pronounced effects were observed in the men who had family history because this led to an increase in the risk factor of alcoholism. Taste, can therefore impact the functions of brain.
