Srinagar observes shutdown over student's death

Markets remained closed to protest the death of a Kashmiri student in Hyderabad while a group of people clashed with the security forces 5TH March 2013. No separatist group had called for a shutdown here.

Separatists have called for a march to south Kashmir's Parigam village in Pulwama district, where the Kashmiri student who died under mysterious circumstances in Hyderabad was buried on 4th March 2013.

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are deployed in full riot gear in south Kashmir areas to prevent the separatist march.

In old city areas of Srinagar security personnel used tear gas canisters to disperse the protest march. The protesters hurled stones at the security forces who also responded by using batons.

Authorities have not imposed any restrictions on pedestrian and vehicular movement in Srinagar.

Reports of protesters trying to break the security force barricades have also come in from some south Kashmir areas of Anantnag and Pulwama districts.

Mudasir Ahmad Malla, a Ph.D scholar in English and Foreign Languages University was found hanging in his room in a hostel room in Hyderabad on 3rd March 2013.

The body of the student was brought to his native Parigam village in Pulwama district where thousands attended his funeral prayers.

The separatists are alleging the student was murdered while the state government maintains it has been a case of suicide as per the preliminary investigations by Hyderabad police.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said there is no mystery about the death of the student since it was a case of suicide.

He also said the details of the incident have been shared with the family of the student and could be made public if the family permitted.

Vasim had complained to the varsity authorities about repeated physical and mental harassment by Kamran

Investigators probing the death of the research scholar from Jammu and Kashmir, Mudasir Kamran, confirmed that he committed suicide in his hostel room in the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) due to personal differences with his roommate Vasim Salim.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kamran belonged to Parigam village of Pulwama district. They were roommates and good friends but subsequently fell out and developed animosity.

Vasim’s complaint:-

Vasim had complained to the varsity authorities about repeated physical and mental harassment being meted to him by Kamran. In January last, Eflu professor Vizra gave a memo to Kamran.

Three days ago, Prof. Vizra rang up the OU police and informed that Kamran and Salim were quarrelling after which a police patrol vehicle brought them to the police station. Chief Warden Vedasharan also accompanied them.

Sub-inspector Madhusudhan Reddy counselled the two students. They were taken back to the campus by Vedasharan.

On Saturday, Kamran’s room was found bolted from inside and he was found hanging . He was immediately shifted to Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC and took up investigation. Autopsy was performed and the body is being sent to Kamran’s village.

Senior police officers, including Director General of Police, Law and Order, S.A. Huda, City Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma discussed the matter with university authorities.

Tension at EFLU after a student from J & K is found dead: Hyderabad

A research scholar from Jammu and Kashmir, Mudassar, committed suicide by hanging in his hostel room on the campus of English and Foreign Languages University near Tarnaka on 2nd March 2013, the police said.

Reasons behind his death are not yet known. No suicide note was found in his room, the Osmania University Inspector P. Ashok said. The scholar, in his late 20s, was found hanging to the ceiling in the night.

He was initially rushed to a nearby hospital. Students of the EFLU brought his body back to the university campus and staged demonstration alleging that the authorities didn’t respond properly to the student’s death.

Tension prevailed at the campus as large number of students gathered there and demanded that the government take action against the responsible university authorities. The EFLU Registrar reached the campus and was discussing with the agitating students when reports last came in.
